Targeting Native Deschutes Redsides (Rainbow Trout) April 22nd - November 15th
The Lower Deschutes Float Trip from Warm Springs is our most popular day trip for targeting the famous hard-fighting Deschutes Redside Trout. We will meet you at Fin & Fire Fly Shop at 7 am. (July & August trips start at 6 AM) Coffee will be ready and you will be outfitted with waders and boots. Our shop is well-stocked and can pick up any last-minute items. After getting outfitted we will drive to the boat launch at Warm Springs which is about 45 minutes from our shop. After launching our drift boat at the Warm Springs we will float and fish our way down the scenic Deschutes canyon. Your guide will work with you, helping you read the water properly as well as put you into some of our favorite spots. In these prime locations we will use dry fly or nymphing tactics to attempt to fool the beautiful Deschutes Redside trout. Although we use our comfortable and spacious drift boats to access the river, you will be fishing from shore, as by law, we cannot fish from boats on the Deschutes.
As one of the great trout rivers in the West, the Deschutes offers a myriad of hatches each year. The most famous hatch is the large Golden Stoneflies and Salmonflies that are abundant from early May through early June. As the large stonefly hatches begin to fade we see blizzard hatches of caddis takeover and some mayfly hatches through summer. Dry fly and nymph fishing can be very good at this time. By late summer and fall we are mostly nymphing for trout and you may have a chance at hooking steelhead on our day trips in September or later.
After approximately 8 hours we will float down to the Trout Creek boat ramp where our truck and boat trailer will be waiting for us. We will then drive you back to your vehicle.

Our fully guided and outfitted multi-day trips are a “must-do” for anyone that wants to see central Oregon at its finest. Whether you are seasoned angler or just looking for a great adventure with your friends or family this is the trip for you. These 3 or 4 day float and camp trips are the best way to experience one of the Northwest’s most famous and spectacular rivers. Each day and around each corner you will savor experiences that will create lasting memories.
Our head guide will work with you to get you dialed in before the trip and discuss any gear needs. Although we provide most everything for a comfortable and successful trip, a gear list will be provided for the group. After launching in the morning, our camp host will be ahead of the group setting up the evening’s camp and kitchen while you enjoy floating and fishing the famous Deschutes. Every hour a new bend in the river beckons as you look forward to each stop and each cast. Your new friend and guide will keep you hydrated and well fed during the day as you float towards the camp that will be fully set-up upon your arrival. After a hard-earned and expertly prepared dinner you will feel like you are living the good life. As you relax in the evening and hear stories of the one that got away you can enjoy the sunset with your favorite beverage or go take a few more casts in the dimming light.
The next 2 or 3 days will bring more adventure and memories at every stop and turn down the canyon. After several days of fly fishing on the water you will arrive at the take-out where you will drive back to town refreshed and looking for the next time you can float the Lower Deschutes River.
On the 1st day of the trip we will meet at Fin & Fire Fly Shop at about 7am. Our shop is well-stocked and you can pick up any last-minute items. After getting outfitted with waders and boots if needed we will then drive, in separate vehicles to the boat launch.
On the last day of the trip we will arrive at the take out near Maupin, Oregon in the late afternoon. Your vehicle will be shuttled to the take out and waiting for you when you arrive ($80 per vehicle, not included in the price of the trip). The take out is a 2 hour drive from Portland International Airport (PDX) and 1.5 hours from the Redmond Airport. We recommend booking your departing flights no earlier than 8pm if flying out the same day.

Crooked River Half-Day Trip “Let’s Go Fishing”

Targeting Native Crooked River Rainbow Trout and Whitefish – March 15th - November 15th
Just 45 minutes east of the shop is the Crooked River. This small desert fishery is one of the best places to learn about fly fishing. The Crooked is our favorite river to take newer anglers or those that would rather not commit to the longer Deschutes trips. Our Half Day (4 hour) guided trips are one of the best settings to enjoy Central Oregon fishing. Our patient guide will work hard for you putting you onto some fish as well as teaching you about the area and the sport of fly fishing.
Our day will start at 8AM where you will meet your guide at the shop in Redmond. After picking up any last-minute items and getting outfitted with waders and boots, your guide will lead you out to the Crooked River in separate vehicles. The drive time is about 45 minutes and leads you through the town of Prineville and up the scenic Crooked River corridor. Upon arrival to the river your guide will get you situated with an appropriate light trout set-up and rig-up your flies while giving as much instruction as needed to get you casting well and hopefully into some fish. We will be fishing for the native Crooked River rainbow trout and whitefish and your guide will help you land fish caught. If you would like a picture, let your guide know as we practice catch and release on this river.
After 4 hours of fishing you will wrap it up for the day and be able to tell stories of the fish caught and the fish lost on the way back to town. Although most trips will start at 8am, we are happy to change the start time to accommodate your needs or the current fishing situations.

FAQ's
Hi, we don’t really have any fly fishing gear and we know it’s pretty expensive to buy. Do you have any rental gear?
We provide high-quality Simms Waders and Boots as well as Premium Rods & Reels, Flies and Tackle at no extra cost on all Fin & Fire guided trips. We are a specialty fly-shop and well-equipped to make your time on the water as comfortable and productive as possible.
Do we need to bring a cooler and food on the trip?
Cold Beverages and snacks are included in the cost of all Fin & Fire guided trips. You do not need a cooler. Alcoholic beverages are not provided but are permitted and don't forget to pack a lunch and we will have some room in the cooler. All meals are provided on the Multi-Day trips by our skilled camp host.
Will we need a fishing license?
Yes. All anglers over the age of 11 must have a valid Oregon Fishing License. Licenses can be purchased from a few local retailers such as Fred Meyer. Please acquire your license before the trip and do not expect that you will be able to get one the day of the trip. Should I tip the guide?
Guide gratuities are not included in the price of your trip and are highly suggested. Our guides work very hard under harsh conditions and if they meet or exceed your expectations please reward them appropriately. As a general rule of thumb, you can follow the same guidelines as restaurant tipping based on the cost of the trip.
What type of clothing should I wear?
Dress for both the coldest and hottest weather that you may experience. Your guide can give you detailed list of what to wear but some general tips are to bring sunglasses, a hat, long sleeve breathable shirt that protects you from the sun, breathable pants (not cotton) that work well with the waders, wool socks and sunscreen. Many of our trips are held on hot days and exposure to the sun will be high. If your trip has an early start time, bring an extra layer that you can shed when it warms up. If rain or cold weather is expected on the date of your trip we recommend fleece layering and a waterproof shell.
We don’t really see a trip that fits with our schedule. Are there any other options?
We are more than happy to work with you on customizing your trip to fit your needs. Need to start late or get off the water early? Large group size? Angler with limited mobility? Let us know and we will do our best to make a trip that works for you. We also specialize in customized corporate fishing trips that make an incredible impression on your group.
Cancellation Policy:
Fin & Fire is not responsible for inclement weather, airline issues, water conditions, or car rentals. Single Day Guide trips can be cancelled 30 or more days prior to your trip for a refund minus a 5% cancellation fee. Cancellations within 30 days of the trip date will forfeit 100% of the trip cost. Multi-Day guide trips are non-refundable. If Fin & Fire decides to cancel the trip to due adverse conditions, the customer may request a full refund.
